Hi watchers and friends,
Last time I wrote a journal entry was a year and a half ago. A lot has happened since then. Most importantly, I'M GRADUATED FROM HIGHSCHOOL! It's already my second year of being out of school and I want to cry it's so wonderful. Seriously, I went slightly insane senior year..but not gonna talk about that because it's over now :D

So I've been doing more art, I'm no longer a guest artist at The Autry Museum, I was invited to be a part of the main artist gallery now so this really is my job now, aside from doing commissions for collectors. I'm super excited to show bigger pieces for next year. I'll post those paintings sometime this Fall.

Let's see..what else has been going on..well I got to go to VidCon for the first time, and then Comic Con this year for my second time! I cosplayed as Sally Skellington and Party Poison from The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys comic. Both costumes I made myself. I think I'll post the Sally one actually because I literally sewed it by hand and did the whole thing using trial and error and I'm quite proud of it if I do say so myself.

Anywayyy, my favorite time of year is coming up...AUTUMN/HALLOWEEN/PUMPKINTIME/CHRISTMAS ETC.. so that's making me quite happy. oH and I've been doing crazy things to my hair. I went from dark brunette to light lemon blonde, to SUPER INTENSE red for my PP cosplay, and now I faded the red and bleached my roots so it's currently a sunset-rose gradient of yellow at the top then fading to a pretty pinkish color. I'm waiting for it to get healthy again so I can bleach it white-blonde. I know, I'm crazy haha. Hair dying is a serious addiction.

I've been obsessed with music again too. I wanted to learn guitar really badly so I picked up my dad's acoustic and taught myself using the interwebs. I learned "The End", "Mama", "Helena", "Sing", "Demolition Lovers", and "Famous Last Words" by My Chemical Romance. I also learned "21 Guns" by Green Day and "Let It Go". I'm gonna be taking a class soon and HOPEFULLY I will get to play these epic songs on an electric. I've been teaching my sister piano too and I realized I love teaching, both music and art.

Other misc. interests of mine lately have been Adventure Time, comics, watercolor, band merch, Tim Burton's films, knitting, LoK, and Animal Crossing.

Well that's a summary of my life right now. C:

(Congratulations if you read this whole thing, you get a sticker.)

So this month I've been pretty much busy up to my neck between high school Senior thesis work and painting. I'm in the Masters show at the Gene Autry Museum in LA (I swear I'm not lying), so I've had a boatload of stress trying to get them done in time. I'm happy to announce I sold out all three paintings. My pieces titled "Alexa", "Josephine", and "Memoirs" are currently in the museum to view. Last weekend was the artists opening night and Jackie Autry greeted me. I dragged my two best friends along with me and finally they know my other world I've been living in since birth. The art world. These people at the Autry are like my second family to me and I've been going to the show ever since I could remember. I'm 17 now. This year was the first time I was asked to be in the show as a guest artist and how could I refuse? Now I'm working on ideas for next year since I get to be in it again!

I had the chance to meet Christopher Blossom at the Autry, and it was the highlight of my night. I was more excited about that than selling my paintings! I revere him above all maritime painters and his depictions of ships are a force to be reckoned with! They are enchanting and incredibly detailed and accurate. He is such a nice, humble man and acts like he's nothing special. But man his paintings..He was kind enough to talk to me about ships and my nerdiness just poured out and he understood it all. First time something like that has probably happened to me. His wife was so kind and friendly too and talked to me about ship models. Anyways, shout out to him and his lovely wife!

A few days ago I went to Pepperdine with my family to see a collection of the golden age of American illustration paintings. I mean we're talking about Rockwell, Howard Pyle, Joseph Leyendecker, Charles Gibson, Dean Cornwell, and N.C. Wyeth! The timeless masters of illustration! It was quite a jaw dropping spectacle to see such paintings in one room. It was something I'll never forget.

Art aside, lets talk...SHERLOCK. For you Sherlockians out there, *group hug* *hug*. I love you guys <3 and my Tumblr followers  www.tumblr.com/blog/ivory-and-… Thanks for putting up with my obsessiveness and weirdness. Today, I found a little plushie hedghog in a random toy store at a rest stop, and I almost died in the store right there :faint: He is now my pocket Jawn. My life is made. I will be adding more Sherlock drawings once I finally finish them, and probably some Hobbit themed drawings. I need to dive into the world of Middle Earth some more. And Martin's face needs to be drawn more. There are no limits. No limits for drawing Ben either. It's still hard to fathom they are BOTH in Sherlock, and BOTH in The freaking Hobbit!!!!ASDFGHJKL....but I digress. I do hope my fan letter and drawing "Jawn" of Martin Freeman made it safely to him. I KNOW he's busy and I don't expect a response any time soon, but I really hope it at least made it to the UK.

Switching to subject of OSCARS!!! Tell me, who are you most excited for to win? What categories? Personally for me, I've got my eye on Les Mis and the Hobbit. Two favorites for me. I saw The Hobbit four times, and Les Miserables once (I barely made it through the whole thing without completely breaking down and sobbing uncontrollably) "To love another person is to see the face of God" -favorite line of the whole movie. I burst into tears. DANG YOU HATHAWAY!!!!! ALL THE FEELS! Gosh I hope she wins again.

Anyone watch the BAFTAS? I'm getting antsy to see it tonight! Most of all...MARTIN FREEMAN will be there  All the motivation I need to watch it. My parents will get to see me flip out just how I did when Ben was at the Golden Globes. I nearly threw a fork through the TV when he didn't win though. I just replayed his sad puppy face of sadness when he didn't win. (I don't know why I torture myself like that.)

In all, I hope you all have a lovely week and thank you a MILLION times for viewing my page :glomp:

I'm Back!!!

3 min read
Yes, 'tis true I have been in hibernation for quite some time. But really, I have merely been churning out more art work in the past two years or so that I will finally be posting. So stay tuned! I'm glad I took the time to just focus on bettering my skills and learning so much more. I look at my old stuff now and shudder at it. It's funny how at the time you think you're work is so amazing. One thing with me is that I don't settle for the stage of progress I'm currently at. I always know it can be better and I like to constantly push myself and try to top my own work. I'm quite a perfectionist in many things, but I know art is one thing where it's completely ok to be a perfectionist in. I've been going through like an art boot camp and studying and taking lessons with my dad about everything like light, values, form, edges, rhythms, colour, planes, and of course, anatomy. But all the time consuming work certainly does have its rewards. So without further ado, let me introduce you to what I've been working on for the past two or so years since I've been gone.
So one thing you will immediately see is that I have an obsession with "Empire of the Sun" which is a 1987 movie directed by Steven Spielberg, based off the book by J.G. Ballard and stars Christian Bale, as his second role in a movie, and first in a well recognized movie. I have been drawing a series of shots from the film since I was inspired when I saw the film for the first time. I fell in love let's just say. I have never seen a film quite like this on so many levels. The cinematography was one of many aspects of this incredible masterpiece that inspired me to draw the beautiful shots. Every scene and frame is a work of art in and of itself and something to be in awe at. So naturally I had to attempt capturing the grandeur, but also the emotion and meaning in it all.
This is also a movie stemming from my love of period movies (since it takes place in 1941-1945) which made it all the better. I must say, I am a complete history, time period, England freak and My love for period films is what has motivated me in most of my work. Some of the ones you will see are from absolute favourite movies such as "The Prestige", "Little Women", "Gone With the Wind", "Pride and Prejudice", and "Pirates of the Caribbean" to name a few. You know, one of the secrets to becoming a better artist is to take things you're interested in and love and use it as your reference so you want to do more! I know it may be obvious to some, but I went through a period of time where I hardly drew or painted at all because I wasn't picking things I really wanted to capture. Now, my parents can't stop me! My love for historical times and period films especially with favourite actresses and actors is my drive for what I do. Needless to say I still have to study and learn the hard stuff too, but it all pays off in the end!
